Concise Web Applications

PixelBag develops small free web applications, as well as rock solid web interfaces as part of a passion for accessibility and standards compliance.

PixelBag applications are actively developed and maintained focussing on catering for a specific niche with their functionality. Using a combination of Object Oriented PHP and some light front-end Javascript, PixelBag applications are built with a rock-solid foundation to which a standards compliant and accessible user interface can be applied. An example of this is PixelBag's current application project, SawBones. SawBones is a tool for analysing and monitoring changes to web page content and structure over time, and will be open-sourced once it reaches a ready state in development.

Adelais is a small hosting company based in Chicago. They provide a user friendly hosting experience with stringent levels of care in their customer support. From July-September 2009, PixelBag helped Adelais in developing a new web portal for their hosting services.

The new site focusses heavily on simplicity and accessibility in both the signup and account management processes, and we're confident that it'll ease the hosting experience for techno-phobic and adept users alike.

Sawbones is a small project used for recursive analysis of websites. Simply enter a URL into the provided field, and Sawbones will analyse the contents of the page at that URL, subsequently displaying various statistics and information about the page and other linked files.

Currently in development, Sawbones stores the results of analysed pages and tracks changes to pages over time. With this information SawBones will be able to plot graphs and display other historical data on changes made to pages over time; hopefully with some interesting results as months and eventually years pass.

What is it?

The Emerald menu system is a simple three-tier drop-down horizontal XHTML/CSS menu system. Designed as a replacement for popular flash menus, a pure XHTML/CSS approach allows for maximum accessibility and a faster load time without sacrificing the exciting visuals common to flash navigation thanks to a clever use of JavaScript.

Why use it?

The whole Emerald menu system is build upon principles of graceful degradation, so when running in a browser without JavaScript or even CSS enabled the menu will still be fully functional. This is especially useful for those using mobile devices which often forgo flash support, or for visually impaired users who may prefer to browse with the aid of a screen reader or without CSS styles enabled.

What does it feature?

The menu itself is fully customisable, and with a few simple CSS changes can be naturally integrated into any website. The menu will scale to fit the width of its parent element, and the menu items will automatically adjust to best fit the menu no matter how many menu items are present.

By default, the Emerald menu system supports two levels of drop-down menus from the main horizontal menu, but for those looking for something more, the menu can easily be modified and built upon with a little technical know how. Feel free to change things!

The Emerald menu system is ideal for those looking for a simple, lightweight and elegant solution for navigation on sites of all sizes.
